The Madrigal Cahills
The Madrigal Cahills are the mystery branch of the Cahills featured in The 39 Clues series of adventure novels. The secret of the Madrigals is not uncovered until late in the series. Other branches are terrified of the powerful Madrigals, whom they believe to be evil. However, Madrigals are actually peacemakers. They are descendants of Madeleine Cahill, the fifth child of Olivia Cahill, who was born after the death of Gideon Cahill. She was the youngest sister, with siblings Jane, Thomas, Katherine, and finally the oldest, Luke. The Madrigals have been working to get the family back together, as they were separated by hatred when their father died and the siblings started fighting to find the clues Gideon had left them to recreate a master serum. Madrigals prevent the creation of an all-powerful Cahill by raiding strongholds or burning documents. They are willing to spill blood to achieve this in extreme situations. A theory about why the Madrigals are so powerful is that Olivia was likely to be impregnated with Madeleine Cahill, the Madrigal branch founder, by Gideon Cahill, when he was experiencing the effects of the master serum.
